Shiba Inu Burn Rate Drops to Zero
The popular dog-themed cryptocurrency Shiba Inu recently experienced an unusual pause in its token-burning activity, with the Shiba Inu burn rate plunging by 100% over a 24-hour window. According to data from the Shibburn website, zero dollars worth of SHIB was burned during this timeframe.
This complete cessation of burning activity stands in sharp contrast to the previous day's metrics. Just a day prior, over 91 million SHIB tokens were destroyed, which had driven the burn rate up by 182,140%.
Ecosystem Activity and Supply Metrics
Industry observers note that a zero-burn period does not necessarily point to an underlying technical issue within the Shiba Inu network. Burn activity naturally fluctuates depending on community participation and ongoing transaction volumes across the ecosystem.
Despite the recent 24-hour lull, broader figures show that 401.30 million SHIB was burned over the last seven days. This contributes to a 30-day total of 707.51 million tokens removed from circulation, bringing the cumulative total of burned SHIB to over 410 trillion tokens and reducing the initial supply by more than 41 percent.
Market Context and Price Action
The pause in token burns coincided with a broader market pullback as cryptocurrencies slid following Federal Reserve meeting minutes indicating that most officials expected another rate hike before the end of the year. During this period, crypto market liquidations reached $969 million according to CoinGlass data.
Shiba Inu fell for consecutive days, hitting a low of $0.000005099 and trading below its 50-day moving average. Meanwhile, on-chain analytics platform Glassnode highlighted that leverage built up during late September altcoin rallies has not fully cleared, leaving several large-cap assets with high open interest relative to their market capitalization.
