Bitcoin Falls Below Key Threshold
Cryptocurrency markets experienced a downward trend as Bitcoin falls below the $80,000 mark during Asian morning hours. According to CoinDesk data, the leading cryptocurrency dropped nearly 2% to approximately $79,800 as investors rushed to cut risk.
The broader digital asset market felt the pressure, with nearly every major token logging losses. Ether slipped nearly 3% to just above $2,300, while XRP lost about 3% to reach $1.28. Other tokens like SOL, DOGE, ZEC, HYPE, and BNB also posted declines between 1% and 2%.
Federal Reserve Meeting and Geopolitical Risks
Market participants are closely monitoring the upcoming Federal Reserve meeting scheduled for Wednesday. Jeff Mei, chief operating officer at crypto exchange BTSE, noted that investors are actively de-risking as they await signals regarding potential rate hikes in December.
Compounding macroeconomic pressures include record-high oil prices and escalating geopolitical tensions involving the U.S. and Iran. The U.S. has been evacuating personnel from embassies and military bases in the Middle East following intelligence warnings of potential attacks.
