Local AI Robotics Take Center Stage in Lugano

Italian robotics startup Generative Bionics, also known as G_Bionics, demonstrated a humanoid robot powered by Tether's local AI robotics platform during the Plan ₿ Forum in Lugano, Switzerland. The demonstration occurred during the event's fifth edition on October 23 and October 24, 2026. The machine performed its artificial intelligence inference directly on internal hardware without communicating with remote servers.

Generative Bionics built the demonstration on its GENE.01 hardware platform, which combines full-body tactile sensing with vision technology. By processing sensory input directly on the machine, the system achieves lower response latency and keeps environment data private. The design targets industrial settings like manufacturing and logistics, where internet network disruptions could cause operational delays.

Tether Investment and Strategy Shift

Tether established a direct financial stake in Generative Bionics by investing 70 million euros during the startup's seed funding round in December 2025. Generative Bionics originally spun out of the Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia to develop human-centric machines for industrial labor.

The live showcase reflects a broader shift for Tether and the Plan ₿ Forum. While the event previously concentrated on promoting Bitcoin payments, its agenda expanded to include digital sovereignty, artificial intelligence, and robotics. Tether Chief Executive Officer Paolo Ardoino has advocated for decentralized infrastructure, positioning the open-source QVAC platform to run AI models on edge hardware rather than centralized cloud computing facilities.

Testing Commercial Readiness

Tether used the forum to present its open-source QVAC platform to a massive audience, as previous editions of the Lugano event attracted over 4,600 attendees. On-device processing eliminates the requirement for persistent cloud connectivity, addressing safety and bandwidth concerns for autonomous machinery.

The organizers did not publish independently verified performance metrics alongside the stage presentation. Current information relies primarily on announcements from the event host and promotional materials provided by the participating companies. Tether's multi-million euro seed backing makes commercial deployment of the GENE.01 platform a central factor in its non-stablecoin business portfolio.
