Binance Says Hackers Used Fake Job Interview in $6.3 Billion Breach
Binance reports that attackers used a fake job interview and an internal AI tool to execute a massive $6.3 billion security breach.

Details of the Binance Hack Incident
Cryptocurrency exchange Binance released an incident report stating that attackers used a fake job interview and an internal artificial intelligence tool to gain access to systems involved in a massive theft. According to The Block, the security breach resulted in the loss of $6.3 billion. CoinDesk reported that attackers linked to North Korea spent months compromising internal systems and employees.
The attackers eventually exploited the hot wallet signing infrastructure of the exchange. According to CoinDesk, this exploitation occurred through the Ethereum EIP-7702 mechanism.
Exchange Outflows and Recovery Efforts
Following the security breach, nearly $11 billion left the platform over a period of 46 hours. CoinDesk reported that net outflows reached $5.3 billion. Chief Executive Officer Richard Teng stated that a recovery was underway.
Teng noted that hourly deposits were beginning to exceed withdrawals after the initial panic subsided. The exchange worked to stabilize operations as funds moved rapidly out of the ecosystem following the incident.
Warnings Regarding Automated Tools
Former executive Changpeng Zhao warned of additional automated breaches following the historic heist. CoinDesk noted that investigators found no evidence that artificial intelligence agents laundered the stolen assets. Zhao stressed that automated tools are lowering the barrier for complex security breaches.
The involvement of an internal artificial intelligence tool in the initial compromise pointed toward changing methods among threat actors. Security analysts continue to examine how automated systems factor into large corporate targets.
