KBRA Assigns Anthropic Credit Rating
Artificial intelligence company Anthropic has been assigned a BB+ credit rating by the Kroll Bond Rating Agency, placing the firm at the top of the junk tier and just one notch below investment grade, according to Cryptobriefing reports. The rating, which carries a stable outlook, was issued alongside a substantial financing package designed to support infrastructure and chip development.
The assessment highlights the growing need for debt markets as artificial intelligence firms scale up operations. According to supporting reports, Anthropic plans to spend over $500 billion on data centers and infrastructure over the next decade, a scale of investment that extends far beyond traditional venture capital checks.
Wall Street Orchestrates Multi-Billion Financing Packages
Wall Street banks are orchestrating a major $60 billion financing package aimed at AI chip development by Google and Broadcom. This follows a separate $35 billion financing transaction tied to Broadcom's AI chip platform, which was led by Apollo Global Management with significant participation from BlackRock.
Financial arrangements for these packages include subordinated debt and senior debt structures. Approximately $4.4 billion of the transaction was structured as subordinated debt yielding about 8.5%, while senior debt yields approximately 5.75%, compensating riskier tranche investors for their position.
Financial Disclosures and Revenue Growth
When assigning the grade, KBRA relied on a proprietary in-house credit risk scoring system because Anthropic provided limited financial disclosures, omitting key figures such as free cash flow and EBITDA. Despite the cautious initial evaluation due to restricted data, subsequent reports indicate robust financial growth.
Anthropic reported second-quarter revenue reaching about $11.5 billion, followed by a third-quarter jump to $16.8 billion, representing a 46% increase quarter-over-quarter. The third quarter also marked the company's second consecutive period of adjusted profitability, coinciding with a valuation of $965 billion.
