XRP Ledger Bug Fix Delayed
The scheduled activation of the XRP Ledger bug fix known as fixCleanup3_4_0 has been postponed to November following a temporary decrease in network validator backing, according to CoinDesk and Crypto Briefing. The amendment, which targets a token-minting loophole and other calculation issues, saw support fall below the required threshold just days before it was set to go live.
Validators function as independent servers that reach consensus on transaction validity. Implementing network rule changes requires backing from more than 80% of the 35 default trusted network servers, translating to 29 affirmative votes.
Two-Hour Support Wobble Resets Countdown
Network support is checked roughly every 15 minutes and must hold consistently at every single check for a mandatory 14 days straight. According to data from the XRPL Dashboard, the fix sat at the required 29 votes on Monday with activation initially scheduled for October 23, but dropped to 26 affirmative votes during a checkpoint on Wednesday.
Although support rebounded to 29 votes by 14:46 UTC and has since climbed to 31 out of 35 validators, the brief two-hour interruption completely reset the 14-day approval window. XRPLWin now lists the updated activation date as November 4 at 14:46 UTC.
Details of the Patch and Market Impact
Neither network tracker identifies which specific validators dropped offline during the brief wobble. Votes are exclusively counted from servers the network actively hears from during each specific check, meaning an offline or restarting server counts the same as a negative vote.
The patch itself is designed to close a loophole allowing an account permitted only to burn or destroy an issuer's tokens to create new ones under certain conditions, according to xrpld 3.4.0 release notes. It also addresses how the network's lending code decides when a loan is late or in default.
