The United Kingdom has unveiled a major AI security funding package totaling approximately £600 million, targeting biological and cyber threats.

UK Unveils AI Security Funding Package
The United Kingdom government has announced an extensive AI security funding package worth approximately £600 million, equivalent to about $800 million. According to Cryptobriefing, the initiative is designed to address biological and cyber threats that artificial intelligence could potentially worsen.
The centerpiece of this announcement is a new AI Biosecurity Lab, designated as AIBL, which is described as the world's first organization dedicated specifically to AI biosecurity. Biosecurity received the largest allocation within the package at £165 million, with £100 million directed to the lab and another £65 million reserved for pathogen countermeasures.
Big Tech Partnerships and Cyber Defense
Major technology companies are contributing to the initiative. OpenAI and Anthropic are committing up to £200 million in model credits to support the biosecurity effort, providing access to their systems instead of direct cash.
Additionally, cyber defense secured £130 million to fund two new initiatives: the National Cyber Shield and the National Exposure and Real-Time Vulnerability Centre. These programs aim to bolster national critical infrastructure against emerging technological risks.
