Corporate Resistance Hits Tokenized Stock Trading Initiative

Major U.S. corporations including Nvidia, Costco, and Nike have chosen to pull out of a proposed tokenized stock trading initiative organized by cryptocurrency exchange OKX and Intercontinental Exchange (ICE), according to CoinDesk. Almost 70 percent of the companies selected for the initial launch have opted out of participating in the ecosystem.

The pushback comes as a 30-day corporate response window approaches its conclusion. Despite the rejections, 19 companies have not disclosed any objections to having their shares offered as digital tokens, including high-profile tech firms such as Apple, Tesla, and Amazon.

Opposition Grows as Response Window Nears End

The joint project between OKX and ICE aimed to bring mainstream equities onto digital ledger networks through asset tokenization. The pushback from corporate issuers reflects ongoing caution among publicly listed entities regarding how their equity securities are listed, traded, and wrapped on public blockchain infrastructure without explicit permission.

With the majority of the selected firms refusing permission, the launch faces structural adjustments. The remaining participating group of 19 firms without active objections provides a smaller set of assets for the initial trading roll-out.
