Expansion Beyond Rollup Metrics

The Ethereum analytics platform completed the L2BEAT rebrand ETHBEAT transition on November 4, 2026, during the Devcon 8 event in Mumbai. The updated platform widens its analytical focus beyond Layer 2 networks to track privacy protocols, cross-chain communication tools, zero-knowledge components, and upcoming liquid staking research.

Layer 2 monitoring remains a foundational function on the website. The broader goal of the platform update is to extend risk analysis across a wider section of the Ethereum ecosystem, testing whether projects adhere to core network guarantees.

In addition to monitoring decentralized applications, the platform plans to track base-layer protocol updates. This additions allows analysts to observe changes made directly to the underlying Ethereum network alongside scaling solutions built on top of it.

Evaluating Protocol Safety After L2BEAT Rebrand ETHBEAT

Privacy protocols represent a major addition to the site's ongoing research coverage. ETHBEAT has completed technical evaluations for 16 individual projects operating within the privacy sector.

Data published on the updated platform lists $983 million in value locked across privacy protocols, reflecting a 19.1 percent increase year-over-year. Deposit totals across these 16 privacy projects reached $3.94 billion, representing a 50.1 percent gain compared to the prior year.

Alongside privacy metrics, the site maintains active tracking for cross-chain interoperability, custom tokens, zero-knowledge tools, and data availability blobs. Blobs were introduced to Ethereum as specialized storage lanes to reduce the costs rollups incur when submitting transaction data to the mainnet.

Standardizing Security with the CROPS Framework

To support its wider research remit, the project launched an assessment tool called the CROPS guide. This framework evaluates decentralized projects across four primary criteria: censorship resistance, openness, privacy, and security.

The evaluation system checks whether projects maintain Ethereum's foundational properties. These characteristics include inheriting security from the base chain, operating without permissioned access, and minimizing reliance on centralized intermediaries.

Liquid staking research is slated for release in future platform updates, according to published findings. This planned expansion will bring monitoring to one of the largest concentrations of capital on the network, though no research in this category has officially launched yet.

Evolution of Ethereum Risk Tracking Since 2021

L2BEAT launched in 2021 to supply public data for scaling solutions built on Ethereum. In its initial operational phase, the project primarily measured Total Value Locked to rank rollup networks by the dollar value of their deposited assets.

The platform later shifted its focus toward evaluating operational risks and technical staging levels. Its risk framework became a widely used standard within the developer community to distinguish decentralized scaling designs from centralized implementations.

The formal rebrand consolidates this multi-year shift in analytical focus. By expanding beyond rollup metrics, the project aims to deliver consistent risk evaluations across multiple technological layers in the Ethereum ecosystem.
