Moonshot AI Prepares for Major Hong Kong Offering

Beijing-based artificial intelligence startup Moonshot AI is addressing past legal matters as it moves forward with plans for an initial public offering in Hong Kong. According to reports from CryptoBriefing, executives at the company are currently negotiating with former investors of Recurrent.ai to settle an ongoing arbitration.

The startup is targeting a first-quarter 2027 window for its listing, through which it aims to raise between $3 billion and $5 billion. The upcoming public offering follows a substantial funding round in May 2026 that exceeded $2 billion, pushing Moonshot AI valuation to approximately $50 billion.

Resolving Founder-Era Legal Claims

The arbitration centers on allegations of misconduct dating back to 2024 during the founding period of Moonshot AI. CEO Yang Zhilin and CTO Zhang Yutao are directly involved in negotiations with the former Recurrent.ai investors.

The claimants are seeking additional equity compensation, a demand that could exceed $700 million based on an earlier $30 billion valuation of the startup. With the company valuation now resting around $50 billion, any equity-based settlement carries an increasingly significant price tag for existing stakeholders.

Corporate Restructuring and Global Partnerships

To ready itself for the overseas public offering, Moonshot AI underwent a corporate restructuring in July 2026, converting from a limited liability company into a joint stock entity to meet Chinese regulatory requirements. That same month, the company launched its flagship Kimi K3 model.

Alongside its preparations for the public markets, Moonshot AI has also explored potential hosting and revenue-sharing deals with major U.S. cloud providers, including Microsoft, Amazon, and Google.
