Robinhood's Ethereum layer-2 network generated millions in transaction fees during its first quarter as proprietary blockchain adoption grows.

Robinhood Chain Drives Revenue Growth
Robinhood Chain has experienced a surge in trading activity, expanding more than twentyfold over a three-month period and capturing millions in network fees. According to a staking report released by Bitwise on October 20, the Ethereum layer-2 network launched on July 1 recorded $14.05 billion in tokenized stock trading volume during its inaugural quarter.
Monthly volume expanded consistently, climbing from $526 million in July to $2.21 billion in August, before reaching $11.31 billion in September. This rapid growth enabled Robinhood Chain to generate $51.11 million in transaction fees throughout the quarter, with Robinhood retaining an estimated $45.93 million, representing nearly 90% of the total before operating expenses.
Broader Market Impact and Tokenized Stocks
The expansion extended well beyond Robinhood's internal trading operations, boosting broader decentralized exchange activity for tokenized stocks. Data from Token Terminal indicates that weekly decentralized exchange trading volume for tokenized assets across the market rose 447% following the launch of Robinhood Chain, climbing from an average of $627 million to $3.4 billion.
Meanwhile, total value locked within decentralized finance on the blockchain climbed past $1.14 billion according to DeFiLlama, building on its growth from approximately $1.03 billion at the end of September. The number of active Robinhood Stock Tokens also doubled, moving from 96 in July to 193 by September, with Nvidia-linked tokens leading quarterly trading at $2.5 billion.
Infrastructure Costs and Future Outlook
The financial arrangement behind the network allows Robinhood to retain the majority of transaction fees while outsourcing components of its underlying blockchain infrastructure. Bitwise estimated that the Arbitrum ecosystem received approximately $5.11 million for supplying the core technology, while Ethereum, which provides data availability and settlement services, incurred just $69,170 in settlement fees from Robinhood Chain during the quarter.
With a market valuation of roughly $100 billion and annual revenue of about $5 billion according to Token Terminal, the brokerage's blockchain operations serve as an emerging earnings stream. Analytics platforms suggest that as blockchain revenue forms a larger portion of corporate income, additional financial services providers may evaluate launching their own proprietary networks, even as smaller layer-2 operators navigate economic pressures.
