Bitcoin Price Crash Driven by Geopolitics and Hacks

A Bitcoin price crash materialized as markets reacted to fears surrounding an Iran strike combined with a series of crypto hacks. The combination of geopolitical anxiety and security breaches weighed heavily on investor confidence, resulting in a broad market sell-off.

According to Cryptonews, the downward pressure arrived alongside heightened concern over the safety of digital assets. Analysts noted that market participants rushed to reduce risk as the dual pressures compounded.

Spot ETF Outflows and Exchange Security

US spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds shed $643 million on Friday, marking the largest single-day outflow since June 25. According to The Block, this decline followed a hack on Binance that occurred earlier in the week.

Data from CoinDesk showed that Binance spent approximately $580 million worth of its SAFU bitcoin following the incident. The user protection fund dropped below the $800 million threshold that normally requires an exchange top-up, and the platform has not specified when it will replenish the reserve.

Institutional Redemptions and Arbitrum Intervention

BlackRock offloaded $405.3 million in Bitcoin as investors pulled money out of its iShares Bitcoin Trust. According to Crypto Briefing, the asset manager transferred holdings to Coinbase Prime to handle redemptions from clients exiting the fund.

Separately, a twelve-person committee on Arbitrum briefly rewrote a core contract to move $30 million of Binance hack funds without possessing the hacker key. CoinDesk reported that the council restored the code afterward, marking the second time this year the network took such action.

According to Crypto Briefing, the transfers executed by BlackRock were tied to specific movements of underlying assets to Coinbase Prime, the institutional trading arm of the exchange. In late October 2026, the asset manager moved one chunk of 3,215 Bitcoin valued at approximately $262 million, along with a separate transfer of 1,698 Bitcoin worth about $136 million.

The institutional transfers occurred as the broader sector faced heavy net outflows throughout the month. According to Crypto Briefing, Bitcoin exchange-traded funds recorded a net single-day outflow of $635 million on October 23, 2026, driven primarily by redemptions from both BlackRock and Fidelity.

During the period of these fund transfers in late October 2026, Bitcoin was trading between $80,000 and $82,000, according to Crypto Briefing. BlackRock stated that the asset adjustments were executed purely to match client demand rather than reflecting a change in its overall investment stance.
