Tom Lee Predicts Tech Rally After Midterm Results

Tom Lee stated that technology stocks could experience a significant tech rally of 15% to 20% as hedge funds return to the market. This projection follows the recent midterm election results that delivered a Democratic sweep of Congress. Even though data center stocks fell in the immediate aftermath of the vote, broader market sentiment points toward potential gains for technology equities.

The political shift has introduced new dynamics across financial markets, with analysts evaluating the broader economic impacts. According to BeInCrypto, the return of institutional capital from hedge funds serves as a primary catalyst for the anticipated upward movement in the technology sector.

Broader Market Rebound and Short Squeeze in Digital Assets

Digital asset markets also experienced notable movements alongside the broader political developments. Bitcoin prices held near $80,000 after rebounding from an election-night low of $75,600. Bitcoin Magazine Pro data showed the asset trading around $80,099 with a market capitalization of approximately $1.61 trillion and about $39.6 billion in 24-hour trading volume.

The recovery was largely driven by a short squeeze that liquidated about $950 million in leveraged crypto positions over a 24-hour period. Bets against prices accounted for $560 million of those liquidations, with bitcoin positions making up $403 million of the total. CoinShares head of research James Butterfill noted that the sweep was largely priced into bitcoin before the vote, leaving room for relief once uncertainty cleared.

Equities and Commodity Markets React to Washington Shift

Traditional equities responded positively to the electoral outcome alongside the digital asset recovery. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose about 1,500 points, or 3%, while the S&P 500 climbed 1.7% and the Nasdaq Composite gained 1.8%. Major technology firms like Apple and Microsoft touched record highs during the Wednesday afternoon trading session.

Energy markets saw the steepest declines, with Brent crude falling more than 9% to $93.91 a barrel and West Texas Intermediate dropping nearly 9% to $87.59. CNBC reported that Vice President JD Vance blamed Republican losses on the Iran war, which contributed to the sharp downward adjustment in oil prices.

Regulatory Outlook and Exchange Derivatives Challenges

The digital asset industry faces a sharp political jolt following two years of a pro-innovation climate in Washington. TD Cowen analyst Jaret Seiberg indicated that the Democratic sweep makes a crypto-backed Clarity Act impossible, while congressional committees overseeing the sector will pass to Democratic leadership in January.

Simultaneously, legal battles over new financial products continue to unfold. A federal judge refused to halt stock perpetual futures on Kalshi, Coinbase Derivatives, and Bitnomial, though the court found that Wall Street-backed challengers from the Capital Markets Alliance Association are likely to prove the CFTC exceeded its statutory authority.
