The Rise of Corporate Spend Software Platforms

Corporate spend software is rapidly transforming into an autonomous agent platform, highlighted by Ramp reaching a valuation of roughly $60 billion in its latest fundraising round, according to people familiar with the matter. Reporting by Bloomberg's Rebecca Torrence indicates that the company brought in about $1.85 billion, with the $60 billion figure representing the pre-money valuation. Dragoneer Investment Group and Thrive Capital led the round, with Founders Fund also contributing a large check. Ramp declined to comment, and the investors did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

The acceleration of this market is evident in recent metrics. Ramp raised $750 million in June at a $44 billion valuation, as reported by Bloomberg. By that point, the company was working with 70,000 businesses, up from 50,000 at the start of the year, with annualized revenue past $1.5 billion. Meanwhile, the broader market has seen significant consolidation, with Brex, once Ramp's closest startup competitor, selling to Capital One for $5.15 billion earlier this year.

AI Agents Take Over Back-Office Operations

While corporate cards remain the foundational base, the product line stacked on top of them now runs entirely on agents. In April, Ramp launched a suite of AI agents for procurement that handle vendor sourcing, generate and score RFx documents, triage intake, run compliance reviews, and track renewals. This offering targets the 98% of U.S. businesses that employ no one to oversee purchasing. In Ramp's own words, customers are hiring the platform as an extension of their team to run purchasing end-to-end.

The second quarter added the rest of the back office with the release of Ramp Stack, an operating system for accounting firms that runs reconciliations, schedules, and monthly reporting end-to-end. According to the company's customer data and analysis, these tools eliminate 46 hours of manual purchasing work per month, run approvals three times faster, and cut annual vendor spend by an average of 16%.

Supervising Autonomous Financial Workflows

Day-to-day operations are shifting as finance teams move from processing transactions to supervising agents. Ramp's control model provides every spending agent with a durable identity, an owner, a budget, and merchant restrictions before any money moves. The system requires a human approver in the loop along with an audit trail that records every payment and accounting sync in real time.

Because liability lands directly on the money layer, enterprise agentic commerce is being built to integrate securely with banking accounts. Agents execute purchases through mechanisms such as Agent Card checkout, the Machine Payments Protocol, or the x402 protocol, attaching receipts and accounting context to each transaction.
