US senator probes Tether over reported agreements
A United States lawmaker has initiated an inquiry into major stablecoin issuer Tether concerning a reported transaction involving a former White House cryptocurrency adviser. According to CoinDesk and other industry reports, the Democratic ranking member of the Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations has reached out to Tether executive Paolo Ardoino to request records.
The inquiry specifically focuses on reported payments made by Tether to a firm founded by a former official who previously advised the administration on digital assets. The Block noted that Senator Richard Blumenthal is seeking explicit answers regarding millions in payments directed to the firm.
Broader political scrutiny surrounding digital assets
This congressional inquiry comes at a time of heightened scrutiny regarding political figures and digital asset ventures in Washington. Separate legal challenges have also emerged involving related projects, such as a lawsuit filed by a Circle shareholder against President Donald Trump.
The separate legal filing alleges constitutional conflicts regarding foreign funds entering decentralized finance projects tied to the administration. Meanwhile, regulators continue pushing forward with digital asset rules despite prior legislative gridlock.
