Anthropic Enters Canada with Major Nova Scotia Canadian Data Center Lease
Artificial intelligence company Anthropic has officially expanded its footprint to Atlantic Canada by signing a long-term lease for capacity at a new Canadian data center campus in Point Tupper, Nova Scotia. Announced on October 16, 2026, the agreement ties the Claude maker to the site for at least 20 years, representing its very first infrastructure deal in the country.
The newly agreed facility is designed to support the operation of Anthropic’s Claude models while catering to rising demand from users across Canada and globally. The initial lease agreement covers the first phase of EverWind Fuels' Point Tupper campus, which is planned for 95 megawatts of capacity and targeted to go live by late 2027.
Looking beyond the initial phase, the broader campus aims to scale up to a total of 420 megawatts by 2028. This means Anthropic’s initial slice accounts for less than a quarter of the total planned buildout for the expansive site.
Unprecedented Investment and Regional Economic Impact
The broader EverWind project carries an estimated price tag exceeding C$10 billion, making it the largest private investment in Nova Scotia’s history. The vast majority of this capital is directed toward the infrastructure itself, with over C$8 billion earmarked for the data center and an additional C$2 billion allocated to supporting onshore wind energy projects.
According to project projections, the massive development is expected to generate approximately 2,000 construction jobs. Once fully operational, the site is slated to support around 215 permanent positions and contribute roughly C$137 million annually to Nova Scotia’s gross domestic product.
Both Anthropic and EverWind have stated their commitment to protecting local ratepayers and resource availability while ensuring tangible benefits for the surrounding community. Meanwhile, the agreement arrives as artificial intelligence developers direct historic sums toward securing global computing capacity.
