Trilateral Agreement to Connect Institutional Funds and Stablecoins
Global asset manager BlackRock has entered into a trilateral memorandum of understanding with Japanese financial giant SBI Holdings and Singapore-based Web3 developer Startale Group. The collaboration marks a significant moment for the Japan tokenization push, targeting the integration of traditional capital into distributed ledger technology.
Under the terms of the memorandum, the three companies plan to connect BlackRock's tokenized institutional money market funds with JPYSC, a Japanese yen-pegged stablecoin developed by SBI. The effort focuses on aligning the technical capabilities of existing platforms while adhering strictly to Japanese regulatory frameworks.
SBI Holdings Chief Executive Officer Yoshitaka Kitao characterized the transition toward on-chain finance as an inevitable global shift. Kitao emphasized that establishing a robust local foundation now is critical for Japan to shape market conditions rather than react to external technological developments.
Strategic Synergies and Infrastructure Leverage
While the text of the agreement does not explicitly mention Ripple or its XRP token, market observers note that the initiative leverages SBI Holdings' established position in regional digital asset infrastructure. SBI serves as a primary strategic partner for Ripple in Asia, co-owning the SBI Ripple Asia joint venture and acting as a major shareholder in Ripple.
Rather than constructing new settlement liquidity in Japan, BlackRock is utilizing SBI's existing compliance network and infrastructure. Singapore's Startale Group will assist in developing the technology to scale the tokenized yen model from initial testing in Tokyo toward broader international financial markets.
