Ledger Unveils $849 Atom Device Amid Supply-Chain Hack Investigations
Ledger has introduced its new $849 Ledger Atom device while investigating a sophisticated supply-chain attack that drained millions from modified wallets.

Launch of the Ledger Atom Device
French crypto wallet maker Ledger has unveiled its new Ledger Atom device, an $849 mobile product that combines everyday applications with hardware-protected crypto transactions. According to announcements on Oct. 15, 2026, the company is currently accepting refundable $100 deposits for a Founders Edition, with deliveries scheduled for 2027.
The new device runs on an Android-based environment alongside a separate Ledger operating system designed to control private keys and approve transactions securely. Ledger Chief Technology Officer Charles Guillemet noted that the Atom includes an active protective shield built to detect physical tampering attempts on its secure hardware.
Supply-Chain Attack Investigation
The high-profile product rollout coincides with Ledger's ongoing investigation into an organized criminal operation that secretly modified genuine hardware wallets. Attackers reportedly purchased genuine devices, installed custom hardware components, and returned the modified products to distribution through Southeast Asian resellers such as Malaysia-based CryptoBilis.
According to reports, the malicious components intercepted information displayed during the wallet setup process, capturing recovery phrases and leading to coordinated crypto drains. Initial loss estimates ranged between $72 million and $86 million, with later figures revised upward to between $93 million and $102 million across more than 300 affected wallets. Tether notably froze about $10 million in USDT linked to the exploited addresses.
Security Features and Industry Response
Ledger maintained that its internal systems, secure chips, and operating software remained uncompromised throughout the incident, attributing the breaches entirely to post-distribution manipulation. The newly announced Atom device aims to address these vulnerabilities by incorporating physical safety measures, such as a secure processor that takes control of the display during sensitive operations and a dedicated privacy switch to disconnect cameras and microphones.
Furthermore, Ledger partnered with Solana Mobile to preload its Seeker application, granting Atom users access to the Solana decentralized application ecosystem. In response to the supply-chain compromise, Ledger has asked authorized resellers and distributors across South Asia to suspend sales while it continues working with law enforcement.
